Changing Seasons

Changing Seasons

Time for those warm jackets and snuggly blankets? Well not quite yet. But Autumn has officially begun and it’s Back to School madness in all its glory. Morning traffic is once again painfully slow, giving us but one tiny perk: beaches are nearly empty!

This time of the year evokes an urge to establish routine; with kids all set for school and signed up for other activities. It also presents us parents with an opportunity to take stock of things at home and get re-organised after those long summer months. September in particular is a popular month to get any renovations done in the home, from a simple lick of paint to any large-scale improvements.

It’s a great time to take a look at your kids’ bedrooms in particular and re-organise and update their surroundings. As children grow and move on to the next scholastic year, it may be time to develop the space around them. If your child is learning how to read alone, perhaps it’s time to install a small reading lamp on his/ her bedside. It’s also the perfect time to go through their wardrobe and take stock of what they need, what they’ve grown out of and whether it’s time to pick up some new white socks! Check out your local community groups for charities that would appreciate clothes your kids may have outgrown.

If you wish to give your child’s bedroom a quick makeover without breaking the bank, there are a few simple projects you can undertake. A simple whitewash or a fresh lick of paint can bring a room back to life and make way for some lovely inexpensive soft furnishings. A popular trend is to stick to a neutral, if not monochrome, colour scheme which has great economic and practical benefits. If you maintain a simple background, it allows you to change items like duvet covers, cushions and wall art (prints and posters) more often; achieving a new look each time.  If for example, your child is really into space exploration at the moment or all things girly, why not add a pop of colour and fun with a great set of wall posters.
